we're not just about great food
At LKCO, we're not just about great food – we're about making a positive impact on our planet. Here's how:
The Udder Way
Our Parkside store supports the milk keg system The Udder Way for our Fleurieu milk company Full Cream Milk on tap.
The Udder Way manufactures 18L LDPE (HACCP Internationally Certified) food grade kegs that are 100 % reusable and recyclable.
The kegs are also free of BPA and Phthalate Plasticisers. The kegs have a life span of eight to ten years and can be used up to 800 times which equates to 302.4 kilograms of single-use plastic waste reduction (per keg) in their lifetime.
Local and Sustainable Sourcing
We take pride in supporting our local community and the environment. Our commitment to local and sustainable sourcing means that our ingredients travel fewer miles, reducing carbon emissions. From farm to plate, we partner with local producers and select sustainable South Australian ingredients whenever possible.Reduced Plastic Use
We understand the harm single-use plastics pose to our environment. Thats why we've made the conscious choice to reduce plastic waste. When you take home a meal from Local Kitchen Co., you'll find that our packaging is re-usable, eco-friendly or biodegradable.
We are proud members of Plastic Free SA, and have partnered with Unley Council to launch Reusably, which is a sustainable container swap system.
Waste Reduction
Food waste is a global issue, and we're doing our part to combat it. All our food waste is paid to be collected by Jefferies Organics - they collect regularly and our waste contributes to their retail compost.Reduced Meat Options
We recognize the environmental impact of meat production. That's why we offer a wide range of meatless and plant-based menu items. Whether you're a committed vegetarian or simply looking to reduce your meat intake, you'll find delicious and sustainable choices at Local Kitchen Co.
